Epson made its mark as the SEIKO Group with the production of
watches. Epson first began over 100 years ago in the watch making
business and was the inventor of the world's first quartz watch
along with many other technology "firsts".
In 1968 Epson launched the world's first electronic printer,
called the EP-101.In fact the name Epson is a combination of EP-101
and 'son'. Epson also manufactured the world's first portable,
high-accuracy, battery-operated quartz timer.
Other products 'firsts' that they made were:the first digital
quartz watch with a six-digit LCD (1973), world's first hand-held
computer in 1980, the world's first television-watch, the world's
first liquid crystal pocket colour TV (1982), world's first 720
dpi colour inkjet printer (1994).
Today Epson products are designed for a wide range of customers
in business, government and the home and include watches, printers,
computers, and other technology products.
To date Epson have sold more than 200 million Point Of Sale printers
and printing mechanisms, and is one of the world's largest producers
of printers and POS printers.
Epson have won numerous awards for the products.
